What are AUPs-and why do they matter? Acceptable Use Agreements (AUPs) set out how staff, pupils, and families are expected to use technology at school. Done well, they: Support online safety and data protection Reinforce professional and respectful behaviour Help schools meet expectations from KCSiE , UK GDPR , and the DfE Technology Standards Build a culture of shared responsibility around digital use Step-by-Step: Rolling Out Your AUPs 1. Tailor the AUPs to fit your school Customise names, roles, contact details, and procedures Decide which versions you need (e.g. staff, primary pupils, secondary pupils, parents/carers) Keep the tone consistent with your school's ethos-supportive, not punitive 2.
