Make sure key ICT systems (internet, MIS, file storage, etc.) are available when needed — and that downtime is minimised, managed, and communicated effectively.

Step-by-Step Implementation 1. Monitor Critical Systems Start with MIS, internet/Wi-Fi, email, file servers, cloud platforms Track uptime, performance and any reported issues Use logs, staff reports or basic monitoring tools 2. Schedule Planned Maintenance Identify tasks that may cause downtime (e.g. updates, hardware replacements) Plan during low-impact times (e.g. out of hours or school holidays) Communicate clearly with staff before and after 3. Log and Analyse Downtime Record what went down, when, for how long, and why Look for patterns and recurring issues Report major incidents to SLT and governors 4. Identify Single Points of Failure Which system failures would cause the most disruption? Add backup plans, redundancy, or workaround procedures Review with ICT support or suppliers 5.
